WAVING JOY, CIRCLING HAPPINESS, DUNJA A. KERR – AND A MOMENT FOR HAPPINESS
Shimmering treasures, connecting patterns, rushing lines amidst the formations in the delicate nature of colors. Open spaces correspond with densities that sometimes merge into floral or animal silhouettes. When the gold starts to shimmer, the round seeds of happiness and the eyes gazing at you become magical. The little maps of bliss will guide you safely through the day, if only you carry them close enough.
Art is an attitude. Even though most artists see their art primarily as an expression of their own innermost being - in conjunction with a commentary on society, it is also very self-referential. Unlike Dunja A. Kerr. She expresses herself in making art for other people - to make them happy. She enjoys the process of its production - finds herself in a meditative state for hours. This flows into her art, just as the ideas flow through her spirit to the paper. Circle after circle, after circle. "Do more of what makes you happy," she always says! Living in London as an artist and working mum, she is able to let all in-tensions move her circles and create fascinating patterns that now will be interpreted as embroidery.
Dunja A. Kerr loves freedom and truly finds inner peace when she is creating. So her plans to study law or architecture were quickly replaced by the goal of becoming an artist. There she cultivated tolerance for different points of view, to embrace color, and to be able to evolve freely in her art without the constraints of rules.
As an artist, she is inspired by the things she sees: In her immediate surroundings - from the play of light and shadow, from complex shapes and surfaces. Everything she takes in, she lets later flow out of her hands.
She loves the element of unplannability when her hand seems to take on a life of its own, moving across the paper in circular, rhythmic salvages. Paper, which in reality is much larger than you think ;) One breath, one calming thought, one movement at the time..
Dunja A. Kerr loves all colors which can develop without the force of symmetry. Gold and silver inkeven seem to represent the richness of life, the transcendence and calming meditation in itself.
Her abstraction of reality and pure colorfulness of life give rise to wonderful, and one-of-a-kind drawings that can be seen as a modern take on Pointillism in the era of Impressionism. In Dunja A. Kerr’s work, the circles are more than a stylistic element to represent her perception of reality. Her densely aligned circles are allowed to produce different images in each viewer - she does not predetermine a final image, but celebrates and enjoys the process of creativity - Art cannot be wrong. It is always right.
Breaking from conventional seasonal collections, By Told brings you small drop collections throughout the year, each with one work of Art at center stage.
